Welcome to South Tahoe Middle School (STMS) — located in beautiful South Lake Tahoe, California. We proudly serve approximately 700 students in grades 6–8 and are committed to fostering a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment where every student feels respected, supported, and connected.
At STMS, we cultivate a collaborative school community that values diversity, promotes equity, and empowers students to become confident, lifelong learners. Our comprehensive academic program includes honors and grade-level courses in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and physical education.
STMS is also home to a Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Program that helps students develop bilingual and biliterate skills in English and Spanish. Students may explore a wide variety of electives such as music, art, leadership, maker lab, technology, baking, yearbook, and Spanish enrichment. In addition, after-school programs—including TRIO, Boys & Girls Club, and other enrichment opportunities—support academic growth, creativity, and teamwork.
Our dedicated staff works collaboratively to implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Critical Concepts in core subjects, and ongoing professional development to ensure student success. Weekly Advisory periods and access to counselors, psychologists, and mental health specialists provide social-emotional support and academic guidance tailored to students’ needs.
STMS also prioritizes wellness through its on-campus Wellness Center, developed in partnership with Sierra Child and Family Services. The Center offers students a safe and supportive space to access mental health services, academic advocacy, and community resources.
We value strong partnerships with families and community organizations. Engagement opportunities such as the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), School Site Council, PIQE, Family Engagement Nights, and Cafecitos help strengthen the connection between home and school.
Safety and a positive school culture remain top priorities at STMS. Our campus features modernized classrooms, technology-rich learning spaces, and secure outdoor areas. We collaborate closely with local law enforcement, conduct regular safety drills, and maintain a School Resource Officer on campus to ensure a secure environment for all students and staff.
