Mt. Tallac High School

Pathways! At Mt. Tallac

Students who choose to transfer to Mt. Tallac High School are looking for a different way to complete their high school education than what they have found previously.  The culture and community that we build each year offers a sense of belonging that supports our students and allows them to learn and grow in a safe environment where their basic needs are addressed before the learning begins.

Mt. Tallac High School staff work with students to prepare them for their next steps. After graduation, students can choose to continue their education in trade schools, community colleges, or other postsecondary educational opportunities. Additionally, they can choose to join the workforce, enter an internship, or serve in the military.  Since so many students in college need to work as well, it is natural that we work with each student's goals and plans so they can take their next steps with confidence. As such, we have modified our program to include practical life skills instruction.

In the spring of 2020, the graduation requirements for Mt Tallac were revised.  The requirements include a requirement of internship/work experience/job shadowing hours which occur outside of the school day.  Also, students are required to earn certifications to increase their employability, and learn 21st century skills which are directly applicable to the workplace.

So far, students have worked with many departments of LTUSD including Grounds, Maintenance (electrical, plumbing, carpentry), clerical at schools and the District Office, food services, transportation, IT, auto, CTE, and elementary school aid/mentor positions.  Also, local businesses have welcomed our students with opportunities to fulfill their graduation requirements including Bare Roots Artisan Coffee Roasting Co., Lillian’s Nails, Ken’s Tire Center, and Elements Health Club.

We are always looking to expand our offerings and opportunities for our students.  If you are interested in hosting a student as an intern or job shadow, please call us at (530) 543-2267.

We are grateful for the support MTHS has had from our community over the years.  With these changes to our graduation requirements, we are having students graduate with job skills and ready to support our community through the workforce.
