What is Cafecitos?
Cafecitos is a place for parents/guardians, staff, and students to come together and learn about resources and opportunities for greater engagement in our schools and community. School representatives and partners from local agencies and organizations collaborate in conversations designed to provide information and receive valuable input.
What is the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)?
The ELAC provides opportunities for families to learn about and help make decisions about the school programs that support their children.
Each California public school with 21 or more English learners must form an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The ELAC is responsible for the following tasks:
- Advising the principal and staff in the development of a site plan for English learners and submitting the plan to the School Site Council for consideration of inclusion in the School Plan for Student Achievement.
- Assisting in the development of the schoolwide needs assessment.
- Exploring ways to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance and providing input on how to support attendance.
A Cafecitos meeting is held every Wednesday at the Family Resource Center at 8:30 a.m. The South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center is located at 3501 Spruce Ave., Suite B.
Sierra House Elementary ELAC meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 8:10 a.m. at Sierra House.
Tahoe Valley Elementary ELAC meetings are held on the first Friday of each month at 8:30 a.m. at Tahoe Valley.
Bijou Community School ELAC meetings are held every six weeks at Bijou. Please contact Bijou for more information.
South Tahoe Middle School ELAC meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at the Family Resource Center.
South Tahoe High School ELAC meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at the Family Resource Center.
District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC)
The DELAC brings together representatives from each ELAC to review district performance data and provide input on district programs. The DELAC reviews and provides input on policies for Reclassification as Fluent English Proficient and on the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). English Learner Advisory Committee meetings will take place at least three times per year, in the fall, winter, and spring.
