Tahoe Valley Elementary School is located in the mountainous, rural, year-round resort area of South Lake Tahoe. The school sits in the “Y” area, a central hub where access to the lake’s west shore, Sacramento, and the south shore converge.

We serve approximately 380 students in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 5th grade and are proud of our diverse and inclusive community. Tahoe Valley is home to three of the district’s five TK classrooms, as well as both of LTUSD’s K–2nd grade Special Day Classes. Our students come from a wide range of economic backgrounds, including lakefront neighborhoods, apartments, motels, trailer parks, and low-income housing.

Programs and Curriculum

• Full-Day Kindergarten implemented since 2006

• Transitional Kindergarten (TK) (4-hour day) implemented since 2012

• Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Focus School

  • Weekly choral/instrumental instruction and PE/Dance with credentialed teachers

  • Monthly grade-level plays performed for students and parents

  • Annual public musical performance for grades 1–5

  • General music theory and progressive instrumental instruction across all grade levels:

    • Drumming (TK–K)

    • Boomwhackers (1st)

    • Handbells (2nd)

    • Recorders (3rd)

    • Ukuleles (4th)

    • Keyboarding (5th)

Intervention Programs

Tahoe Valley is committed to supporting every child’s academic growth through targeted interventions:

• Reading Intervention available for all grades, with Kindergarten support provided daily by TK teachers

• Math Intervention available for all grades to strengthen foundational skills and promote mastery of key concepts

These supports are integrated into the school day to ensure students receive timely, personalized instruction.

Assessment Practices

• iReady assessments administered three times per year in grades K–5 to drive instruction, guide interventions, and monitor growth
