Overcoming adversity: Student earns award and admiration - Mountain Democrat - Cesar Lorenzo, a student at El Dorado High School, has been honored with second place in Region 2’s Every Student Succeeding Award. This award highlights students who have overcome significant personal and academic challenges to find success and achieve their goals.

Applications now open for the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Hall of Distinction – Tahoe Daily Tribune - Lake Tahoe Unified School District is accepting applications for inductees to the prestigious LTUSD District Hall of Distinction. This esteemed award honors former students, employees, and major contributors/volunteers who have made significant contributions in areas such as scholarship, athletics, student activities, career achievements, community service, and overall service to the school community.

Have the time of your life at Mamma Mia – Mountain Democrat – Oak Ridge High School says, “Here I go again,” as it stages the hit musical “Mamma Mia!”

Stars At School: Jenn Beard – Mountain Democrat - Jenn Beard’s student-centered focus and collaborative spirit shine as an instructional assistant – autism within the El Dorado County Office of Education Special Services Department. Her commitment to fostering independence are an inspiration to the EDCOE community.

New guidance for how California schools can protect students from wildfire smoke – EdSource - The California Department of Education issued new guidance this month for schools on how to protect student health during wildfires.

California foundations launch initiative to boost youth civic engagement – EdSource - As Californians gear up for elections that have the potential to shape the lives of young people in fundamental ways, a consortium of mostly California foundations have set up a fund to elevate the role of public schools in promoting civic leadership and democratic participation. 

New law moves toward better translation of special ed documents, but families want more – EdSource - California schools will soon have a template for special education programs translated into 10 languages in addition to English.

South Lake Tahoe K-5th Graders dive into the wonders of water – Tahoe Daily Tribune – Local students dive into the wonders of water with South Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition (STEEC.) Over the past three weeks, all Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) K-5th graders learned about water and nature through hands-on learning.

 

Sierra Central Credit Union gives South Tahoe High students a bite of reality – Tahoe Daily Tribune – Sierra Central Credit Union (SCCU) partnered with South Lake Tahoe High School on September 19, 2024 to empower over 200 graduating seniors with practical financial skills through the engaging Richard Myles Johnson Foundation (RMJF) program, Bite of Reality.

 

Oak Meadow embraces positive law enforcement relations – Mountain Democrat – Oak Meadow Elementary School and the Buckeye Union Mandarin Immersion Program recently welcomed deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office in association with the SCHIELD program, standing for Safeguarding Children through Healthy Initiatives, Education, Law Enforcement, and Deterrence. 

 

Lake Forest Elementary earns a blue ribbon – Mountain Democrat - U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recently recognized Lake Forest Elementary in the Rescue Union School District as one of 356 schools nationwide, and 33 schools in California, as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School.
