Short-Term Independent Study

Independent study shall offer a means of individualizing the educational plan to serve students who desire a more challenging educational experience, whose health or other personal circumstances make classroom attendance difficult, who are unable to access course(s) due to scheduling problems, and/or who need to make up credits or fill gaps in their learning. The minimum period of time for any short-term independent study option is five (5) consecutive school days and no more than:

Two weeks in grades K-3
Four weeks in 4-8
Six weeks in grades 9-12

As necessary to meet student needs, independent study may be offered on a full-time basis through the Independent Learning Academy (ILA) or on a part-time basis in conjunction with part- or full-time classroom study.  (6158 BP, 6158 AR)

For more information, see Board Policy 6158.

To request enrollment for grades TK-8, please complete the Independent Study Master Agreement below and submit the forms to the respective school site at least five days prior to the first day of your planned absence.  For grades 9-12, contact the South Tahoe High School attendance office.
