ACADEMIC STANDARDS - TECHNOLOGY - 4th GRADE

STANDARDS FOR TECHNOLOGY

Fourth Grade

Students demonstrate K-3 outcomes in addition to the following:

GENERAL AWARENESS

Students:

  • can create and delete folders.
  • can copy a file to a disk and to the class file on the school server.
  • understand and respect electronic copyright laws.
  • can set up a computer.
KEYBOARDING

Students:

  • continue formal keyboarding (20 wpm).
  • can use shift, caps lock, and arrow keys.
  • can use keyboard shortcuts where appropriate.
WORD PROCESSING

Students:

  • can format a document.
  • can switch between two or more open documents.
  • can use writing tools (e.g., spell-check, thesaurus, etc.).
  • can move and copy text and graphics between two or more open documents.
  • can use shortcuts and rulers.
BASIC GRAPHICS, PAINT, DRAW, AND MULTIMEDIA PROGRAMS

Students:

  • can access and capture an image, video, and sound from peripherals and integrate into a multimedia project.
  • can use tool kits in the creation of documents.
NETWORKING

Students:

  • can explain what a network is and how it operates.
  • can access and start programs from a network.
  • can share files across a network.
  • can select information fro the Internet to copy and/or print.
  • can read Internet addresses.
USING PERIPHERALS

Students:

  • can use a CD ROM or VCR in multimedia projects.
  • can capture an image from a scanner, CD, or other device and insert into a word processing document.
