Mission Statement
The mission of social studies is to develop capable citizens who are empowered with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes enabling them to make informed decisions in a culturally diverse and interdependent world.

GLOBAL STANDARDS OF SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION |
All students will:
- prepare for employment in the 21st century by exhibiting reliability, responsibility, accountability, and integrity
- develop an understanding of the individual's role in a family, community, state, national and global society
- understand international interdependence in the areas of trade and politics within the movement toward a global society and economy achieve
- responsible citizenship through the appreciation of democratic processes
- promote responsible management of global resources
- utilize opportunities for involvement in service activities within the school and the civic community
- appreciate diverse countries, nationalities and cultures
- apply objective thinking skills in discussion, debate, and the analysis of issues from opposing perspectives
- employ creative strategies to solve problems in today's changing society
- gain incentive for future success in a competitive market system through the comprehension of economic principlesutilize opportunities to explore and
- apply written, oral, visual and technological resources study and appreciate how ideas, events, and individuals have influenced change over time and
- recognize the conditions and forces that maintain continuity within human societies
- assess the impact of geography on culture, history, political systems and the environment through a study of the five themes of Geography (location,
- place, regions, movement and human environmental interaction)
- connect history to today's world and to their personal lives in order to promote pro-active awareness.
