Parent Involvement:
One of the Core Values at STMS is that we value an
active partnership between our school, parents and community. Parents
have many options for being involved in their student's education
and school. Below are ways you can make a difference at STMS. For
more information on getting involved, contact Jackie Nelson,
Principal at 541-6404.
School Site Council: This
joint committee composed of parents, teachers, and administrators
is responsible for developing a school improvement plan and overseeing
the expenditure of categorical funds the school receives. For STMS
this is a substantial amount of money. The funds are restricted
to certain uses, but withing those restrictions are a wide variety
of programs and personnel that we support. In particular, we receive
dollars for GATE, Title I (low performing student), English Learners,
and SIP (school improvement plan). The group meets once each month
from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For the next meeting go to the school
calendar page.
Parent-Teacher Association:
We are part of the National PTA and our local association is composed
of a few dedicated parents. With over 1270 students in our school,
it would seem that we would have dozens of PTA members, however,
the reality is that the group is usually less than 8!
WE NEED YOUR HELP.
Please come to the next PTA meeting and get involved
in your child's education and school. Dozens of research papers
have proven beyond doubt that children whose parents are involved
in their child's school get better grades, are happier in school,
and perform better on standardized tests! Give your child the edge...VOLUNTEER.
For more information, call Jackie Nelson, Principal at 541-6404.
STMS Safety Committee:
This committee, composed of teachers, classified staff, parents,
students, and administrators is charged with reviewing and updating
the school's Safety and Crisis Response Plan. We meet several times
each year to discuss areas of strength and improvement related to
the safety (both physical and emotional) of our students and staff.
If you are interested in attending one of our meetings, please contact
Jim Valdes (Chair) at 541-6404 or just drop in. For a schedule,
go to the school calendar
page.
