Language Arts Standards are the guiding force for our curriculum as
we pursue excellence in literacy.
Please feel free to visit the link to the standards. However, they
are quite voluminous and exhaustive. If you prefer the short version,
keep reading.
In addition to regular school reading (as measured by number of books
or pages read, or minutes of daily reading), we expect students to
read a good representation of narrative text appropriate for grade
level.
- We expect students to read
for enjoyment, information, understanding, and for critical analysis
and evaluation.
- We expect students to write
clear, coherent, focused essays that demonstrate an awareness
of audience and purpose.
- We expect students to write
and speak with a command of standard English conventions that
are appropriate to their grade level.
- We expect students to deliver
focused, coherent presentations that convey ideas clearly and
relate to the background and interests of the audience.
