Lake Tahoe Unified School District is excited to announce the latest donors to the South Tahoe High School Viking Stadium Renovation Project. With Phase I already underway, Heavenly Mountain Resort and the South Tahoe Alliance of Resorts (STAR) (formerly the Lake Tahoe Gaming Alliance) today have announced they intend to match community donations for the Friday Night Lights drive up to $20,000. Heavenly and STAR each intend to contribute $10,000 to the stadium construction and are challenging other community members to get their donations in by Monday August 15 to contribute to the donation match. UPDATE: 8/15/11 - the $20,000 Match has been made!!

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE SCHOOL QUALIFIES AS A FINALIST IN GOVERNOR’S FITNESS CHALLENGE COMPETITION
Tahoe Valley Elementary be considered for prizes up to $100,000
Los Angeles, Calif. – Jake Steinfeld, Chairman of theGovernor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, announced today that Tahoe Valley Elementary is one of 12 school finalists in the Gold Country Regionand 116 schools state-wide that have been named finalists in the 2011 Governor’s Challenge Competition. The Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery, is a nationwide high-school art competition sponsored by the members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The contest is open to all high-school students within the Fourth Congressional District which includes includes El Dorado, Placer, Nevada, Sierra, Plumas, Lasson, Modoc, and portions of Butte and Sacramento counties. The 2011 winner is Alana Mosca of South Tahoe High School. Her winning piece is titled “Barefoot Beauty”, a digitally enhanced photograph of footprints in the sand with waves slowly crashing on shore. Alana’s artwork will be professionally reframed and shipped to Washington DC where it will hang in the Cannon Tunnel along with other national winners. Two roundtrip airline tickets will be awarded to Alana. 2nd Place Winner: Gisela Renteria – So Tahoe High - Photograph entry titled “Folklorica”. 3rd Place Winner: Christopher James Garrett – So Lake Tahoe - Photograph entry titled “Falls” . Schools Selected by California Business for Education Excellence for Prestigious Honor Roll
The Lake Tahoe Unified School District announced today that the Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School has been selected by California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) as one of 1,221 public schools in California to receive the title of 2010 Honor Roll school.

Tahoe Valley Elementary School is one of 22 Finalists in the old Country Region and one of 127 in the state 2010 Governor's Challenge Competion for the second year in a row with 100% of students participating. The school is now under consideration for prizes including 11 fitness centers worth up to $100,000. Award winners will be announced in September. |

The El Dorado County Office of Education announces Adult Education classes to be offered in South Lake Tahoe. The location of these classes will be announced by Sept. 13th. The INDEPENDENT LEARNING ACADEMY will open its doors in September at the Al Tahoe Learning Center, 1100 Lyons Avenue, South Lake Tahoe. The academy will welcome students from Kindergarten to 12th Grade who wish to enjoy an enriching educational environment that is more flexible than the traditional school setting. The INDEPENDENT LEARNING ACADEMY’s vision is to provide a program that is flexible enough to meet the needs of a variety of independent learners from college prep high school students to elementary and middle school home schooled students, and other independent learners.
