To find biographies in the South Tahoe High School Library:

 

1.      Use the online catalog to search for a biography of your subject

    1. Type your subject’s name into the search window, last name first.
    2. Click on the “Subject” button.

 

2.      If your subject is well known, use a general encyclopedia, such as World Book or Britannica

 

3.      If your subject has a particular career or is a famous political leader, use the online catalog to search for books about that subject.

Example:

1.      If you looking for an athlete, type “Athletes Biography” in the search window

2.      Hit the “Subject” Button

 

4.      Use the following books in the reference room to find information about your subject:

 

  • American National Biography; call number: REF 920.073 A

 

  • Biographical Encyclopedia of 20th-Century World Leaders, call number: REF 920.009 BIO

 

  • Current Biography, 1940-2002, call number: REF 920 CUR

 

  • Encyclopedia of World Biography, call number: REF 920 Gal

 

  • Hispanic American Biography, call number: REF 920.009 HIS

 

  • Notable American women: A Biographical Dictionary,

Call number: REF 920 N

 

  • People in the News, 1991-1997, call number: REF 920 BRO

5.      Use the following online resources to find biographies

a.      Use Biography Resource Center

1.      Go to South Tahoe Library Web page

http://www.ltusd.org/sths/library/

2.      Click on “Find magazine articles, biographies and maps”

3.      Click on “Biography Resource Center

4.      Enter password (get one from the library)

5.      Select “Biography Resource Center

6.      Type your author’s name and hit “search”

 

    1. Search in the Encyclopedia Britannica Online

1.      Go to South Tahoe Library Web page http://www.ltusd.org/sths/library/

2.      Click on “Encyclopedias/Enciclopedea

3.      Select either the English or Spanish version

4.      Type your subjects name in the search window and hit “Go”.

 

 

b.      Search for web sites using “The Librarian’s Index to the Internet”.

2.      Click on “Search the Internet”

3.      Click on “Librarian’s Index to the Internet”

4.      Type your subject’s name in the search window and click on “Search”

5.      You will receive back a list of web sites. Click on those you want to view.
