Jun 5-7: Tahoe Bike Challenge

Click for Spanish

Dear Parent,

We would like to invite you and your child to participate in Bike and Walk to School Week June 5-7, 2019. This event is happening at the same time as the Tahoe Bike Challenge in June when we encourage everyone in Tahoe to ride their bikes to work or school, around town, or just for fun. This year, we’re also excited to partner with We Can! to encourage kids to eat healthy and stay active. Learn more about the Tahoe Bike Challenge at www.lovetoride.net/tahoe and We Can! at www.bartonhealth.org/wecan.

Students who participate in Bike and Walk to School Week can choose from fun prizes such as bike lights, reflective stickers, bike bells and more! Biking to school is a great way for kids to get exercise and it also helps reduce traffic near schools. View the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Safe Routes to School Master Plan to learn more.

How to participate:

  • Encourage your child to bike or walk to school June 5th, 6th, and 7th if you live a safe distance to your school, OR plan to meet at a designated spot with other parents and kids.
  • Please make sure your child checks in at the bike stations at each school so that they are counted and eligible to win fun bike prizes!
  • If possible, bike to school with your child. Parents can also participate in the Tahoe Bike Challenge!  Or volunteer with another parent or teacher to lead a group of kids from a designated spot.
  • Please look at the attached bicycle safety tips.
  • Donate extra bikes or helmets to students who may not have any (contact info below).

We hope that you will join us and look forward to an exciting Bike and Walk to School event on June 5-7.  Don’t forget your helmets!  If you have questions, please contact me at ksmith@trpa.org.
